1967-1988

Douglas launched the DC-9 development project in April 1963, intending the DC-9 as a short-range companion to their larger four engined DC-8. From the outset the DC-9 had been designed with stretched larger capacity developments in mind. The first stretch resulted in the biggest selling DC-9, the 105 seat DC-9-30, which entered service in February 1967. The DC-9-32 is the real Star of the Swissair DC-9 fleet... In service since October 1976, and after returning their , a total of 22 aircraft were in service for more than twenty years, including one all-freighter.
